For those of us designing buildings with 2D CAD software it’s nice to know there are alternatives to AutoCAD.
For years, I have used AccelliCAD along side my AutoCAD license. It was easy to go back and forth between the two softwares. I could take a file drawn in ACAD, plot it in AccelliCAD, draft on it a little, open it again in ACAD….no problems.
Sadly-AccelliCAD phased out of business.
Sadly- AutoCAD 2013 would no longer reload on my computer (and I switched back to Windows 7 from Windows 10 and I really needed by legal licensed ACAD 2013 to go back on my computer….it didn’t.
Sadly-AutoCAD requires monthly licenses meaning if I have poor cashflow some month-I can no longer produce drawings.
Happily: I found BricsCAD and IntelliCAD. Both of these softwares are native .dwg format, meaning they don’t translate ACAD files-they work directly on them (and vic versa)
Happily: Brics CAD and IntelliCAD still sell their software with no monthly requirements.
Happily: the learning curve from ACAD to BricsCAD and to IntelliCAD is almost instant.
Very Very Happily: BricsCAD and IntelliCAD are a fraction of the cost of ACAD.
in closing-it was also fantastic that BricsCAD software will load and operate on either a Mac or PC.
